Omiya Garrison Fireworks and Summer Festival

The Japan Ground Self-Defense Force’s Omiya Garrison (Base / JGSDF Camp Ōmiya) will once again host its lively Summer Evening Festival this year. However, in September rather than in actual summer. No doubt to avoid the blistering heat of August. It is an annual community event filled with food stalls, music, and a short fireworks display. It’s one of the base’s most popular open events, welcoming visitors of all ages. The festival, which culminates with a fireworks display, is also popular because it is on a weekday. This year, that is Thursday September 17th, 2026, from 3.30 pm to 8 pm.

Omiya Garrison Summer Festival with Fireworks

This year’s festival will feature 20 stalls in total, including 14 food stalls serving classic summer festival favourites and 6 goods stalls offering small items and souvenirs. The lively stall area will run until 7 pm, creating a relaxed early‑evening atmosphere before the fireworks begin.

The festival is open to everyone, and visitors can enter freely through either the main gate or the north gate, where bags will be checked for safety. Please note that there is no parking for cars, and arriving by car is not permitted, so the organizers ask that guests use public transportation. A temporary parking area will be available only for bicycles and motorcycles, with motorcycles directed to enter through the north gate for easier access.

Drones are strictly forbidden. During the festival, public relations staff will take photos for official use. Images will be processed to avoid identifying individuals.

If the weather is bad the festival will be completely canceled. In other words, there is no back up date this year. If the event is canceled it will be announced at midday (12 noon) on the day via the Omiya Base official X account, from which the feature photo at the top of the post was taken.
