The Minami Koshigaya Awa Odori Festival in 2021 looked like it might go ahead on the scheduled date of August 20th to 22nd. But inevitably they decided to “postpone” it. That is, cancel it, essentially. They only made the announcement on July 9th 2021.
With its proximity to Tokyo this festival normally attracts around 70,000 spectators. There are approximately 6,500 dancers, in a regular year, who perform the traditional Awa dance. Furthermore, apart from the performances, you can also enjoy festival booths.
The 2021 festival which was scheduled for three days, from Friday August 20th to Sunday 22nd, was “postponed”. In essence, cancelled. Normally, on the Friday the festival starts at 7 pm. On Saturday and Sunday it begins at 2 pm. Each day it finishes up around 9 pm.
