Ochanomizu Santa, Tokyo – Whether Santa Claus will be able to visit St Clair shopping center in Ochanomizu for the 14th year in a row in 2020 remains to be seen. It is usually one of the first places the real Santa from Finland visits on his rounds of Tokyo.
The St Clair Santa is not only one of the longest running Santa events in Tokyo, but also one of the most popular. People queue for hours for the chance to meet Santa who has flown all the way from Lapland.
The Santa meet and Greet event for 2020 date is not yet available (December 26th 2019). And due to the Coronavirus it is highly likely that there will be no event this year. In 2019 it was on Saturday December 7th from 11 am to 3 pm.
People queue from early morning to get a ticket to participate in this free event. Tickets are restricted to the first 130 families in line. You still have to line up after getting a ticket to meet Santa and get your photo taken with him. You need to have your own camera with you. In previous years Santa Claus has given a sweet to those he’s met.
The flyer and full line up for 2020 will be provided if the event is set to go ahead, which looks unlikely with the pandemic. Generally, the event runs from 11 am to 3 pm. During which time Santa meets and greets for just over an hour. Last year that was from around 12.50 pm and finished up around 2 pm.
Each year they hold a number of different events in conjunction with Santa’s visit such as live music performances and the shopping center has other Christmas events on such as Christmas concerts and workshops.
