A new record daily high – 330 new cases of Covid-19. Two deaths were also announced. This is just a quick update as its New Year’s eve!

December 30th

A total of 244 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in Saitama Prefecture on Wednesday January 30th. One death was also confirmed in the prefecture. It is the 206th death from the virus in the prefecture.

December 29th

A total of 300 new cases of Covid-19 have been announced in Saitama Prefecture, December 29th 2020. This is the highest daily total of new Covid-19 cases in Saitama Prefecture during the pandemic. Also, 6 deaths were reported in the prefecture, bringing the total deaths from the coronavirus in Saitama to 205. Of the deaths today, one was a woman in her nineties from Kawaguchi city. Of the 6 deaths, 4 had an underlying health condition. Of those, one was a male patient in his sixties of Toda Chuo General Hospital which is currently experiencing an outbreak. This is the second death from the virus at the hospital. There was also a death in another hospital in Saitama City, a man in his seventies who was admitted to hospital on the 26th.

Cluster and other information

Of the cases confirmed on Tuesday December 29th:

  • An additional 9 cases were confirmed at Todo Chuo General Hospital, bringing the total in that cluster to 122.
  • In Wako city, the Kanno Hospital also confirmed further cases, bringing the total in that cluster to 106.
  • Eclacia Yono also confirmed another case. There is now 35 people in that cluster.
  • An employee of Campbell Home returned a positive test on the 29th bringing the total in that cluster to 33.
  • The prefectural police announced that a male assistant police officer in his thirties tested positive today, December 29th.
  • In an unnamed facility for the elderly in Saitama prefecture, 3 female employees in their thirties and fifties, tested positive for the coronavirus on the 29th. Earlier in the month a male and female resident, both in their eighties, tested positive for the virus.
  • Of Kawagoe’s cases, 2 are from the facility for people with dementia where an outbreak has been reported.

December 28th

A total of 184 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in Saitama Prefecture December 28th, 2020. Kawagoe City announced 4 new cases of Covid-19 on Monday December 28th. The patients are all female, all living in Kawagoe city – 2 in their teens, 1 in their twenties and 1 in their forties. The Prefecture announced 140 new cases of Covid-19. Details will not be released until after 9 pm tonight. Koshigaya city announced 13 new cases within the city. However, 3 of those will be counted in the Prefecture’s figures and 2 in Tokyo’s figures. 8 were confirmed by Koshigaya city.

December 27th

A total of 211 new cases of Covid-19 and 6 deaths from the coronavirus were announced in Saitama Prefecture on Sunday December 27th. This is the highest total for a ‘Sunday’ to date.

December 26th

A total of 265 new cases of Covid-19 were announced in Saitama Prefecture on December 26th.

December 25th

Saitama Prefecture reported a new record high of daily coronavirus cases on Christmas Day, Friday December 25th. Its the 3rd day in a row that a new record high was announced.

A total of 298 cases were recorded and 1 new death from Covid-19 too, December 25th. It is the 193rd death from the virus in the prefecture. New cases were confirmed in several facilities for the elderly as well as medical facilities.

Cluster and case information

  • Eclacia Yono, a facility for the elderly has reported 33 cases of Covid-19 to date, 8 of which were confirmed today, December 25th.
  • In Toda Chuo General Hospital, 21 were confirmed positive today (25th) bringing the total in that cluster to 76.
  • Campbell Home in Kawaguchi confirmed more cases today, December 25th, bringing the total in that cluster to 32.
  • In Kawagoe, 3 more cases were confirmed at the facility for people with dementia, bringing the total in that cluster to 12. There has been 1 death at this facility to date.

December 24th

A total of 251 new cases of Covid-19 and 6 deaths were reported in Saitama Prefecture on December 24th.

December 23rd

A total of 230 new cases of Covid-19 were recorded in Saitama Prefecture on December 23rd.

December 22nd

A total of 196 new cases of Covid-19 and 3 new deaths from the coronavirus were announced in Saitama Prefecture today, December 22nd. Saitama Prefecture, Saitama City and Kawagoe announced a death each. The death announced by Saitama Prefecture was of a woman in her nineties resident in Akatsuki in Fukaya where there is an outbreak. She is the third person to die from the virus at this facility. Overall, the total number of deaths from the Coronavirus in Saitama Prefecture now stands at 183. The prefecture also announced some clusters, which are outlined below the bullet points.

Cluster and other information

As of 7.30 pm Tuesday December 22nd

  • At Toda Chuo General Hospital 18 people tested positive for the virus today, December 22nd. The total number of confirmed cases in this hospital cluster is now 31.
  • A facility for the disabled confirmed 27 new cases of Covid-19 today, December 22nd, and 1 yesterday. The cluster at this facility now has a total of 42 confirmed cases.
  • A Junior High School in Kawaguchi has a cluster of 9 confirmed cases. They have temporarily closed the school and are investigating the path of infection.

And as of 9 pm last night, December 21st

  • Another case was confirmed at Casa First, Fukaya, bringing the total of confirmed cases to 53.
  • Yoshimi also confirmed another case at a facility for the disabled, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 57.
  • Iwatsuki Pool which was temporarily closed after two staff members tested positive, reopened today.

December 21st

A total of 117 new cases of Covid-19 and 3 new deaths were reported in Saitama Prefecture, Monday December 21st. Only one case, a woman in her nineties, was reported by Kawagoe City. She is a trace contact of a previously confirmed case. This is the 611th case of Coronavirus in Kawagoe during the pandemic.

Cluster and Case information

The Prefecture indicated yesterday, December 20th, that they have stopped giving the name and location of “facilities” where clusters have been contained within that facility. That is, outbreaks that occur within a facility and do not spread outside the facility, will no longer be identified by either name or even region.

  • At the facility for the disabled in Yoshimi, 11 more people tested positive, bringing the total in the cluster to 56.
  • At a separate facility for the disabled 2 more people tested positive bringing the total of confirmed cases to 14.
  • In a facility for the elderly where 8 people were previously confirmed, an employee tested positive yesterday (December 20th).
  • A cluster of 4 in an office was announced on the 20th. The four people, aged in their 20s and 30s had been out to eat / drink together.
  • Furthermore, according to the Prefectural Board of Education, there is one case in several prefectural schools in the Eastern and Western part of the prefecture.

December 20th

A total of 161 new coronavirus cases were reported in Saitama Prefecture on Sunday December 20th. It is the second highest daily total for a Sunday, the highest was on Sunday December 6th with 162 cases confirmed.

Cluster and case information

As of 9 pm on the 19th

  • More cases were announced at Kanno Hospital in Wako City, bringing the total of confirmed cases in that cluster to 99.
  • Another case was confirmed at a municipal elementary school in Saitama were 2 other coronavirus cases have been confirmed so far.
  • The Filipino bar Pub Snack Welcome in Iwatsuki confirmed 3 more cases – a teenage girl, woman in her eighties and a man in his forties. There is now a total of 22 in this cluster.
  • Casa First in Fukaya also reported new cases, bringing the total of confirmed cases in that cluster to 51.
  • The facility for special needs in Yoshimi now has a total of 45 confirmed cases, including an employee in her fifties living in Ogawa town.
  • Another facility for special needs also has an outbreak. The unnamed facility in Kazo City has 9 confirmed cases of which 7 are employees.
  • A facility for the elderly in Okegawa has a cluster of 16 confirmed cases.
  • Furthermore, at another medical facility, neither name nor location has been revealed yet, 6 new cases were discovered on the 19th.
  • Akashindo in Kawagoe where an outbreak occurred a few weeks ago, confirmed a new case on December 19th.
  • The facility for people with dementia in Kawagoe also confirmed a new case yesterday.

December 19th

A total of 226 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported in Saitama Prefecture, Saturday December 19th. This is the second day in a row the figure has been over 200. And it is the highest daily figure of new cases in the Prefecture since the pandemic began. The prefecture announced 178 of the cases. This is also the highest daily figure of prefecture-confirmed cases to date. Tokyo had their second highest tally of new cases in the one day and the second time the figure has gone over 700. A total of 736 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in the capital (Tokyo) on November 19th.

Latest cluster information as of 9 pm on Friday December 18th

  • In Toda City there is a cluster of 23 children and staff at a municipal elementary school.
  • In Kawagoe, at a facility for people with dementia, 6 confirmed cases were announced on the 18th.
  • A preschool aged child is among the confirmed cases in a cluster of 19 related to a Filipino bar Pub Snack Welcome in Iwatsuki. The child is the daughter of an employee of the restaurant. The snack bar has been closed (temporarily) since the 15th and the prefecture continue to try and contact an estimated 100 customers that visited since the 7th of this month.
  • Casa First in Fukaya city reported another case bringing the total in that cluster to 50.
  • It was reported that 8 new cases were identified in a facility for people with special needs in Yoshimi. That cluster now has 29 confirmed cases.
  • An employee of Anshin Kawaguchi tested positive for the virus, bringing the total in that cluster to 35.
  • At an unspecified location, 2 staff and 8 residents at a facility for the elderly (also not named) tested positive today. There are now a total of 11 confirmed cases at the facility.
  • At another facility for the elderly, also unnamed, 3 more people tested positive bringing the total to 14 confirmed cases.

December 18th

Governor Ohno reported a total of 201 new cases of Covid-19 at a live press conference earlier today, December 18th. This is the highest daily total to date and the first time the figures have gone over 200 new cases in one day.

Metsa Village in Hanno announced today, December 18th, that one of their staff has tested positive for the virus.

December 17th

A total of 196 new cases of Covid-19 and 3 deaths from the virus were reported in Saitama Prefecture, December 17th. Saitama City and Prefecture reported the deaths. The prefecture announced 119 of the new cases. Kawagoe city reported 9 new cases of Covid-19, aged between 10 and 89 years old, on December 17th. Of those, 8 are living in Kawagoe, 1 in Fujimino. The route of infection is unknown for 2 of the 9 cases.

Tokyo announced 822 new cases December 17th, a new record high and the first time for daily figures to go over 700. The national total is also a new record high and all the figures are not yet in. By 5 pm the total was already 3202 new cases of Covid-19 nationwide.

Current clusters and case information

  • Kanno hospital in Wako City confirmed 4 more cases, inpatients, bringing the total in that cluster to 94.
  • The Prefectural Tax Affairs Division and the Prefectural Agricultural Business Support Division confirmed two related cases, trace contacts of a mutual family member. However, both of these prefectural workers have not had contact with the general public.
  • The prefecture announced that the cases reported as dairy farm workers on the 16th are actually working at a livestock farm.
  • Saitama City closed a pool in Iwatsuki ward after a part time worker tested positive for the coronavirus.
  • Of Kawagoe’s cases on the 16th, 1 case is from a medical institution in Kawagoe where a cluster has been identified. Awaiting more information on this cluster.
  • There was also another case in a municipal elementary school in Kawagoe on the 16th.

December 16th

A total of 179 new cases of Covid-19 have been announced in Saitama Prefecture, December 16th. Of those, 14 were announced by Kawagoe of which 2 cases are under ten years old. The majority are trace contacts, but 4 are from an unknown route of infection. Koshigaya City reported 4 new cases: two women in their fifties, a woman in her twenties and a man in his fifties. Three of the four are trace contacts.

Current Clusters

  • On the 15th, a cluster of 6 foreign dairy livestock** farm workers was reported. The farm is in the North of the prefecture. Of the 6, 5 were confirmed on the 15th, all of whom are living in Honjo City. **Saitama Prefecture initially reported these cases as “dairy” farm workers. On December 17th they corrected the report to “livestock”.
  • Kanno Hospital in Wako City announced 3 more medical workers and 4 patients tested positive on the 15th. The total in this cluster is 90 as of 9 pm on December 15th.
  • Campbell Home announced another infection bringing the total in the cluster to 25.
  • A facility for the elderly in Okegawa announced a cluster of 11 on the 15th.
  • All patients and staff at Sai no Kuni Omiya Medical Center have been tested and no further cases were identified. In total 11 people tested positive in this, the second, outbreak at the hospital.

School clusters and information

  • A 4th student tested positive at Omiya Higashi High School on the 15th.
  • Another male student(/s) tested positive at a municipal school in Saitama City with previously confirmed cases, that has not yet been identified. They also haven’t given a clear picture of the numbers.
  • A girl who attends a municipal junior high school in Saitama City tested positive.

December 15th

A total of 173 new cases of Covid-19 and 1 death from the disease were reported in Saitama Prefecture on Tuesday December 15th. The reported death was of a man in his eighties who died of the Coronavirus in Saitama City. It is the 174th death from the Coronavirus in Saitama Prefecture.

Of Kawagoe’s 10 cases, aged between 20 and 79 years of age, three were trace contacts of work colleagues, two are from an unknown route of infection and five are trace contacts of family or friends. Of Kawaguchi’s 18 cases, aged between 20 and 89 years old, at least four are from an unknown route of infection.

Tokyo’s figures were less than 500 today, at 460 new cases. However, this is the highest total for a Tuesday to date.

December 14th

A total of 102 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in Saitama Prefecture, Monday December 14th. Although relatively lower than previous days, this is actually the highest total for a Monday to date. There were also 2 deaths announced bringing the total number of deaths to 173.

December 13th

A total of 144 new cases of Covid-19 were announced on December 13th. One new death was also reported bringing the total deaths in the prefecture from Coronavirus to 171.

Clusters

  • Sai-no-kuni Higashi Medical center (Saitama City) currently have a cluster of infections, with at least 11 patients infected. This is the second time the hospital has had an outbreak. In April and May they had a cluster of 31 cases – 16 patients and 15 staff.
  • Kanno Hospital (Wako) confirmed another person today, Sunday December 13th, bringing the total in that cluster to 82.
  • Harukaen (Kawaguchi) also reported new cases today, December 13th, bringing that cluster to 21.
  • Anshin Home Kawaguchi announced 2 more cases, residents, bringing the total to 32 in that cluster.
  • Campbell Home confirmed 2 more cases bringing the total at that facility to 22.

December 12th

A new record daily high was recorded in Saitama December 12th with 199 new Covid-19 cases. Tokyo has also reported a record high with 621 cases confirmed, December 12th.

December 11th

A total of 185 new Covid-19 cases and 2 new deaths from the virus were confirmed in Saitama Prefecture, December 11th. It is the second highest daily figure to date. Furthermore, the overall total has surpassed 10,000 cases since the pandemic began. The total number of deaths from the virus in the prefecture is now 170.

One of the deaths was of a man in his eighties who was hospitalized at IMS Fujimi. This is the fourth death from the coronavirus at this hospital.

Kawagoe announced 9 new cases of Covid-19, Friday December 11th. Of those 9 two are teenagers, a boy and a girl, both trace cases of previously confirmed cases. In total, 5 of the 9 new cases in Kawagoe today were from an unknown route of infection.

Of Kawaguchi’s 20 new cases, 10 of them are living with people who previously tested positive for the virus. Furthermore, 3 are trace contacts of previously confirmed cases.

Casa First in Fukaya confirmed 8 new cases today – 1 staff and 7 residents. Bringing the total in that cluster to 48. Kanno Hospital also confirmed more cases bringing the total in that cluster to 74. And a care facility in Fujimi that has not yet been named confirmed another case today, bringing their total to 18.

December 10th

A total of 188 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in Saitama Prefecture, December 10th. This is the highest daily overall total of new cases to date. The prefecture also announced 1 new death from the virus. A woman in her forties. This brings the total number of deaths in Saitama Prefecture from the Novel Coronavirus to 168.

Kawagoe City announced 17 new cases of Covid-19, December 10th. Of those, 6 are aged between 10 and 20 years old. Of the 6 teenage cases, 2 are from an unknown route and the other 4 are trace contacts of family or class mates who have already tested positive for the virus.

More information was released on 3 of December 9th’s (5) deaths. A man in his seventies and a woman in her nineties were patients of IMS Fujimi where there is currently an outbreak of the virus. A man in his eighties was a patient of Kanno Hospital in Wako City where there is also an outbreak. This is the fourth death from the virus at the hospital. As of 9 pm on the 9th, a total of 167 people have died from Covid-19 in Saitama.

There are currently 27 people in a serious condition with the virus. A total of 631 people were in hospital as of 9 pm on the 9th. Furthermore, 245 people are being treated in hotel and 541 are recuperating at home.

Clusters

  • Anshin Kawaguchi’s cluster now stands at a total of 27 cases
  • A 39th case was confirmed at Casa First in Fukaya on the 9th
  • A total of 67 cases were confirmed across all Fukaya’s clusters on the 9th
  • A man in his forties from Kitamoto City who works at a (currently) undisclosed facility for the elderly in the prefecture was the 16th positive person confirmed on the 9th
  • Two of yesterday’s Kawagoe cases are mothers of students at Noda Junior High School

Schools

  • A teacher in the North of the Prefecture tested positive on the 9th
  • A teenage boy at a municipal junior high school where there is currently an outbreak returned a negative PCR test after being tested as a trace contact. However, after developing a fever he was tested again and returned a positive result.
  • According to the Saitama City Board of Education one teenage girl attending a municipal junior high school tested positive for the virus on the 9th.

December 9th

A total of 145 new cases of Covid-19 and 5 deaths from the disease were announced in Saitama prefecture, December 9th.

Kawagoe, December 9th: Four of the cases are from an unknown route of infection. The other three were tested as trace contacts of family member’s who had tested positive for the disease. They are men and women aged between twenty and sixty-nine years old. In total, Kawagoe have confirmed 278 cases in Kawagoe city and 27 cases from outside the city. Currently there are 24 people receiving treatment in hospital and 38 recovering at home. 184 people have recovered from the disease and there have been 5 deaths in Kawagoe City to date. There are currently 27 people awaiting PCR results in Kawagoe.

Current clusters

  • Kanno Hospital in Wako City confirmed two more cases yesterday – a male patient in his thirties and a female medical staff in her sixties. This brings the total in that hospital cluster to 68 infected patients and staff members.
  • Fukaya’s Casa First once again had a positive case yesterday, bringing the total in that cluster to 38.
  • IMS Hospital in Fujimi hadn’t reported a new case for a few days, but yesterday a man in his eighties tested positive for the virus. The total in that cluster is now 17.
  • Fujimi City also have a cluster at a facility for the elderly which has not yet been named. As of 9 pm on the 8th, the total in that cluster was 15.
  • Hanyu City has an outbreak at a facility for the disabled. One teenage girl and one woman in her twenties tested positive at the facility yesterday bringing the total in the cluster to eight.
  • Three foreign women in Toda city, aged between 10 and 49 tested positive for the virus yesterday, after a family gathering of 10 members.
  • In total there are 105 cases in four facilities for the elderly in Kawaguchi City.
    • Anshin Home Kawaguchi confirmed 13 cases on the 8th.
    • Harukaen also confirmed another case on the 8th.
  • Campbell Home in Koshigaya confirmed 3 more cases yesterday, bringing the total in that cluster to 12.

Schools

  • At Misato Kita High School a second student has tested positive.
  • One more student of Noda Junior High school tested positive for the virus yesterday. Bringing the total in that cluster to 36. However, at least five family members (December 7th figure) of students have also tested positive. So in essence the cluster is at least 41 people.

December 8th

A total of 172 new cases and 3 new deaths were announced in Saitama Prefecture, December 8th. On November 21st 173 cases were initially reported, but one case was retrospectively deducted for a total of 172 cases. Hence, today’s total is the highest daily total jointly with November 21st.

The prefecture announced 122 new cases of Covid-19. This is the highest daily figure from the prefecture conducted tests to date.

Kawagoe December 8th: the city announced 5 new cases of Covid-19. Four men and one woman. One, a boy between 10 and 19 years old, is a student who was tested after cases were confirmed in his school. Another is a boy under ten years old who was tested after a family member was confirmed to have the virus. The route of infection is unknown for the other three cases, a woman in her sixties, a man in his forties and a man in his fifties.

Kawaguchi December 8th: the city announced the death of a man in his eighties who died on November 26th. They also announced a cluster of at least 13 patients in Vati Anshin Home Kawaguchi. In the preliminary PCR tests 13 tested positive and they are continuing to test others and trace contacts.

As of 9 pm on December 7th, there are 27 people in a critical condition with the Coronavirus in Saitama Prefecture. A total of 662 people are receiving treatment for the virus in hospital. Furthermore, 228 people are being treated in a hotel, while 572 are recuperating at home.

To date 162 people have died from the Novel Coronavirus in Saitama. Three of those deaths, as per above, were reported on December 8th. Three people also died on the 7th. Those patients were aged between 70 and 99 years old. One of the deceased, a woman in her nineties was from Akatsuki in Fukaya where there is currently an outbreak. That is the second death at that facility. Fukaya City also reported another death. The woman in her eighties was living in assisted housing for the elderly “Casa First”, where there is also an outbreak.

Current Clusters

  • As per above, a new cluster was announced on December 8th at Vati Anshin Home Kawaguchi. So far, 13 patients have tested positive.
  • The prefecture confirmed another case at Casa First in Fukaya, bringing the total in that cluster to 37.
  • Kanno Hospital in Wako also confirmed more cases yesterday, including that of a female medical staff in her forties. There are now 66 confirmed cases of Covid-19 at the hospital.
  • Campbell Home in Koshigaya confirmed more cases bringing the total in that cluster to nine.

School Information

As reported on the 6th, Kawagoe’s Noda Junior High School currently has a cluster of 35 cases of Covid-19. Jump to Noda Junior High School information.

According to the Prefectural Education Bureau, two prefectural schools in the eastern district and one prefectural school in the southern district each confirmed infections.

There was one case of an elementary school aged child in Kawagoe yesterday. They have temporarily closed the school and are testing approximately 30 children in the class as well as the homeroom teacher.

December 7th

A total of 91 new cases of Covid-19 and 3 new deaths from the virus were announced in Saitama Prefecture, December 7th. Of Kawagoe City’s three cases: two of the cases live in Kawagoe. One is a child under ten years old, one a woman in her thirties. Both are trace contacts of previously confirmed cases. The third case is a woman in her seventies living in Fujimi city.

December 6th

A total of 162 new cases of Covid-19 and 3 new deaths from the Coronavirus were announced in Saitama Prefecture, December 6th. It is the fifth day in a row that more than 150 cases were confirmed in Saitama Prefecture.

Noda JHS Cluster, Kawagoe

So far, 34 students and 1 teacher have tested positive at the Noda Junior High School in Kawagoe. The first 2 cases were confirmed on the 2nd of this month; 1 third year student and 1 first year student. So far, 22 first year students, 1 second year student and 11 third year students have tested positive for the virus. The school will be closed until December 16th while they examine the route of infection and how it became so widespread. They are also continuing to test students in 2nd grade and other trace contacts.

Moreover, family members of the infected students have also tested positive. So far, five family members have tested positive. Of all 40 people related to this cluster so far, no-one is seriously ill.

Fukaya

12 more cases were confirmed at Casa First in Fukaya on Sunday December 6th, bringing the total in the cluster to 36 cases. Akatsuki also in Fukaya confirmed another case too, bringing that total to 20 cases.

Other

More cases were also confirmed in the Harukaen cluster in Kawaguchi, bringing the total to 17 confirmed cases.


December 5th

168 new cases of Covid-19 were announced in Saitama Prefecture, December 5th. It is the fourth day in a row that there have been more than 150 cases of Coronavirus in Saitama. As of 9 pm on December 4th, there are 29 people seriously ill and 624 being treated in hospital. Also, 204 people are receiving treatment in a hotel and 479 are recuperating at home.

Of the 5 deaths announced on the 4th, 2 were patients in Kanno Hospital in Wako City. That hospital has had three deaths from the virus so far. They also have an active cluster with 31 people testing positive for the virus. The first death from the disease in IMS Fujimi was announced yesterday. The patient was a woman in her eighties. Another death occurred of a man in his eighties who had been admitted to Sekishindo in Kawagoe. They too have an outbreak with 6 people confirmed to have the virus so far.

Clusters

In Fukaya city another patient was confirmed in the Casa First housing for the elderly. That brings the total in that cluster to 8. At a separate facility ‘Akatsuki’ in Fukaya, also a care house, 3 more people were confirmed to have the virus yesterday, bringing the total in that cluster to 17. Furthermore, another case was confirmed at the Fukaya Daiichi High School. Misato Kita High school also confirmed a case yesterday.

Nishisaitama Chuo Hospital in Tokorozawa confirmed another case yesterday bringing the total in that cluster to 17.

In Saitama City there were 2 cases of elementary school aged children and 2 Junior High School students confirmed yesterday. There was also other cases in a family with teenage boys. Kawaguchi city also had cases in an elementary school.

December 4th

For the third day in a row new cases of Coronavirus topped 150, with 163 new cases reported in Saitama Prefecture, December 4th. 5 deaths were also reported by Saitama Prefecture and Kawagoe City. Bringing the total number of deaths in the prefecture to 153. Japan had its first teenage death from the virus confirmed today. The location and whether or not the girl had an underlying condition have not yet been reported.

December 3rd

151 new cases of Covid-19 and 2 deaths were reported in Saitama Prefecture, December 3rd. The prefecture announced the deaths. 148 people have died from the Coronavirus in Saitama prefecture to date.

There are currently 31 people in a critical condition in hospital. A doctor from Saitama Medical Center in Kawagoe cautioned on TV yesterday that we must take the rise of people in critical condition very seriously. The doctor very poignantly pointed out that having even one critical patient requires care from a large team of Doctors. He said that having just one patient in a critical situation with the Coronavirus requires the level of care of 30 to 40 ‘regular’ patients. The prefectural board of education released some information about cases in schools yesterday. More below the bullet list.

Coronavirus at Saitama Schools

According to the prefecture 70% of infections of elementary school students are originating in the home. However, the majority of High School infections are thought to be starting at school, of which an estimated 60% are thought to be originating at club (bukatsu). Therefore, the Board of Education have requested that high school “bukatsu” clubs do not meet over the winter holidays.

In November, there were 82 cases of Coronavirus in school students in Saitama excluding Saitama City. Of the 82 cases outside of Saitama City, the majority were High School students. Of the 176 prefectural schools, 46 have had infections and five of them have had clusters of more than 5 people.

December 2nd

150 new cases of the Coronavirus and 2 new deaths were reported in Saitama Prefecture, December 2nd. 146 people have died from the virus in Saitama prefecture to date.

December 1st

104 new cases of Covid-19 and 3 deaths were reported for Saitama Prefecture, December 1st. The deaths were announced by Saitama Prefecture and Saitama City. In Saitama, the total number of deaths from the Coronavirus now stands at 144. The prefecture announced today that they are implementing a new way to consult with Doctors in the face of the rapidly rising number of cases and increase in critical cases in Saitama. More information should be available in the coming days.

November 30th

66 new cases of Covid-19 and 2 deaths from the Coronavirus have been reported in Saitama Prefecture, November 30th. The deaths were announced by Kawaguchi and Koshigaya cities. The total number of deaths in the prefecture from the virus is now 141.

139 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in Saitama Prefecture, November 29th. Its the fourth day in a row that daily figures have exceed 100.

November 28th

118 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in Saitama Prefecture, November 28th. This is the first time that Saitama has had more than 100 new cases for three days in a row. The national total is also a new time high with 2678 new cases of Covid-19 already reported by 6.30 pm nationwide.

Nishi Saitama Chuo Hospital cluster

The hospital in the west of Saitama with a cluster that was previously unnamed, has been reported as Nishi Saitama Chuo Hospital in Tokorozawa. As of 9 pm on the 27th, 13 people had tested positive in the cluster. Including 6 medical staff, 3 patients and 1 clerical worker.

Fukaya Schools

Fukaya Daiichi High School had another student test positive yesterday. Three days after the first case was confirmed. They also had new cases in two other prefectural schools, one in the east area, one in the south, on the 27th. The eastern region school has closed temporarily while they investigate the cases.

A municipal nursery in Kawagoe

Another nursery school teacher at a nursery in Kawagoe tested positive on the 27th. They are currently testing 9 one year old children as close contacts.

Saitama Coronavirus November 2020

November 27th

103 new cases of Covid-19 and 1 death from the virus were announced in Saitama Prefecture, November 27th. The Prefecture announced 72 of the cases. 3 of the cases were announced by Kawagoe on November 27th. A man in his forties from Tsurugashima City, a man in his seventies from Ageo City and a woman in her twenties living in Kawagoe City. Koshigaya announced 4 new cases. Saitama City and Kawaguchi reported 12 cases each. Kawaguchi announced the death, the 139th death in the prefecture from Coronavirus.

Current clusters

Of the cases confirmed by the prefecture on the 26th, 7 people tested positive in a hospital in the west of Saitama where 3 cases were also previously confirmed. The prefecture has said that because all 10 of the cases at this facility are on the same floor in the same ward they do not yet consider it a cluster.

Kawaguchi’s River Inn had more cases test positive yesterday. There are now 56 confirmed cases in that cluster. And another medical facility with a cluster “Harukaen” also confirmed more cases on the 26th.

At Ims hopsital Fujimi another 4 cases were confirmed yesterday bringing the total in that cluster to 14. The 4 cases identified yesterday include a man in his 80s in Miyoshi town and a woman in her 30s in Shiki City, both previously inpatients at Ims.

A prefectural school in the south announced one pupil tested positive for the virus. They are currently testing close contacts, but they have not closed the school. In Kawaguchi a municipal Junior High School confirmed 3 cases of Covid-19 over the last two days and the school has been temporary closed. They are currently testing close contacts of the pupils.

Of Saitama City’s 9 cases yesterday, 8 are from an unknown route of infection. One of the cases is of an elementary school boy. A teacher also tested positive at another municipal elementary school on the 26th.

In Koshigaya 3 of the confirmed cases are from family clusters. The city announced that staff at a public daycare center have tested positive for the virus. They will not release the name of the daycare center to protect the identify of the infected. Unrelated, they also had 1 preschooler test positive yesterday.


November 26th

160 new cases of Covid-19 and 1 death were reported in Saitama on November 26th. The prefecture reported 120 of them. Kawagoe confirmed 5 cases, 2 men in their fifties, 1 woman in her fifties, a man in his seventies and a woman in her eighties. Three of them are trace contacts of previously confirmed cases. Two of them are from an unknown route of infection. All of them are living in Kawagoe city. Kawaguchi announced the death. It is the 138th death in the prefecture from the Coronavirus.

The medical facility with a cluster in Fujimi has been named. Its Ims Hospital located beside Lalaport. Another case was confirmed on the 25th bringing the total number of cases in the cluster to 10.

November 25th

99 new cases of Covid-19 and 3 deaths from the virus were announced in Saitama Prefecture November 25th. The deaths were announced by Kawaguchi City and the Prefecture. The total number of people who have died from the Coronavirus in Saitama Prefecture is 137.

As of 9 pm on the 24th, 19 people are in a critical condition with the virus. 541 are in hospital, 207 are being treated in a hotel and 193 people are recuperating at home. Another case has been identified in the medical institution in Fujimi (which has remained unnamed) bringing the total in that cluster to 9. A new cluster has been identified at a prefectural school in the West of Saitama. There is also a cluster in a school in Saitama City with at least 3 pupils testing positive for the virus. 33 children and 4 teachers were tested as close contacts of a confirmed case, and so far 2 have returned a positive result on the 24th. Kawaguchi city has also closed schools after some students were found to have the Coronavirus.


November 24th

43 new cases of Covid-19 and 2 deaths announced Saitama Prefecture, November 24th. The prefecture reported 31 of the cases of Covid-19. Kawagoe announced 3 of the cases, a girl in her teens and two men. One in his twenties, one in his fifties. 1 death announced by Kawaguchi city on November 24th. A woman in her eighties died on November 21st and it was announced by the city today. The prefecture also announced a death, bringing the total number of deaths from the Coronavirus to 134 in Saitama prefecture.

As of 9 pm on the 23rd there are 19 patients in a critical condition with Coronavirus in Saitama Prefecture. 546 are hospitalized with the virus, 196 people are receiving treatment in a hotel and 247 are recuperating at home. 6493 people have recovered from the virus.

Another case at Moro Maternity Square was confirmed on the 23rd. Bringing the total in that cluster to 13. A municipal elementary school in Saitama City has a cluster of six people, including teachers and pupils. Another elementary school has been closed after children younger than ten years old tested positive for the virus. They have not disclosed the names of the schools.

River Inn in Kawaguchi city confirmed another positive case on the 23rd bringing the total in the cluster to 55. There is now also another facility for the elderly, “Harukaen” with a cluster of 7. A cluster at a medical institution in the prefecture that has been undisclosed has a cluster of 5 patients. An employee in a school in the south of the prefecture tested positive on the 23rd. The school has not yet been named.


November 23rd

90 cases of Covid-19 have been reported in Saitama Prefecture on November 23rd.

As of midnight November 22nd:

Of November 22nd’s new cases, 1 is associated with the Soka City maternity clinic cluster. An employee in her forties who lives in Yashio City and works at Moro Maternity Square confirmed positive today, November 22nd. Bringing the total in the Moro Maternity Square cluster to 12.

A new cluster has been identified at a medical institution in Fujimi City. The name of which has not yet been released. A total of six people have been identified in this cluster. A female employee tested positive on the 21st and five more positive results were confirmed on the 22nd.

The death that was confirmed today was in Saitama City. It is the 14th death in Saitama City from the Coronavirus. The age of the patient has not yet been disclosed. Of Saitama City’s new cases, five are from the same family. A family were three others in the family had already tested positive. There were also another eight cases related to family clusters. Five of Saitama City’s cases on November 22nd were from an unknown source.

115 new cases of Covid-19 and 1 death were reported in Saitama Prefecture on November 22nd.

Clusters

  • In Soka City a total of 11 cases have been confirmed at a Moro Maternity Square clinic. Today’s new cases involve 2 employees and 3 patients.
  • A total of 6 people have been confirmed to have the virus at a preschool in Kuki City, including 4 preschoolers.
  • Another case was confirmed at River Inn in Kawaguchi bringing the total in that nursing home for the elderly to 54.
  • There are two other clusters in facilities for the elderly that have not yet been identified. One facility has 3 confirmed cases the other they have not specified the number but they have infections in male and female patients and a male staff member.
  • 10 of Saitama’s city’s cases on November 21st were from family clusters.

November 21st

A total of 173 cases were reported in Saitama on November 21st. This is the highest daily total to date. 1 death of a woman in her eighties in Kawaguchi has also been reported. It is the 131st death in Saitama Prefecture from the Coronavirus.

The national total is also a new record high, for the 4th day in a row. The figure has already exceeded 2500 cases even though the final numbers are not yet available.

16:43 Koshigaya announced 6 cases of Covid-19. However, 3 of them were confirmed in the city and 3 of them by the Prefecture.

November 19th

The Saitama Prefectural Government held an emergency meeting last night, November 18th, to discuss preventative measures going forward. As of 9 pm last night, there are 15 patients in a critical condition, 462 in hospital, 195 receiving medical care at a hotel and 78 people recuperating at home. 6138 have recuperated from the disease. As of 6 pm November 19th, 127 people have died.

November 13th

79 83 new cases of Covid-19 and 5 deaths announced in Saitama Prefecture on November 13th. The deaths were announced by the Prefecture, Koshigaya and Kawagoe. NHK is reporting 4 deaths, but all other news outlets are reporting 5. However, they are all in accordance that the total number of deaths in the prefecture to date is 118.

The national total of new cases is, for the second day in a row, a new high. 1676 1719 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in Japan on November 13th. (At 5.58 pm it was announced as 1676, but at 18.18 NNN amended that figure to 1719 and it may not be the overall total, some figures are still coming out).

November 12th

75 new cases of Covid-19 and 1 death were announced for Saitama Prefecture on November 12th. The death was of a woman in her sixties in Kawaguchi City. This is the 114th death in the prefecture from the Coronavirus. Two more people, both staff, have tested positive at Sompo Care Villa Asaka bringing the total in that cluster to 68. Of the 68 cases, 50 are patients and 18 are staff.

Nationally, the highest number of daily new cases were recorded in Japan today. 1635 people in Japan tested positive for the virus on November 12th 2020.

November 11th

116 new cases of Covid-19 have been announced in Saitama Prefecture November 11th. This is the highest daily number of new cases to date.

The figures were late coming out today which never bodes well. Of those prefectures that released their data early, many reported higher figures than yesterday. Osaka reported the highest daily number of cases ever. And Tokyo had its highest number of confirmed cases since August 20th.

November 10th

67 new cases of Covid-19 and 1 death from the Coronavirus were reported in Saitama Prefecture, November 10th. Overall it was a bad day for Covid-19 with several prefectures confirming numbers much higher than they have been in weeks. The national total for Tuesday November 10th in Japan is currently at 1271 new cases confirmed and 12 deaths announced.

The death of a woman in her nineties from the virus was announced by Saitama Prefecture. It is the 113th death from Coronavirus in Saitama since the pandemic began.

Nursing home clusters

Among the new cases announced today there were four at the River Inn nursing home in Kawaguchi, which brings the total in this cluster to 45 confirmed cases. Governor Ohno announced at a press conference on the 10th that he will hold an emergency meeting for people involved in nursing care and welfare facilities in Saitama Prefecture. Since the end of October, clusters have occurred one after another at facilities in the prefecture, and he aims to improve the initial response when an infected person is discovered.

According to the prefecture, from the end of October to the beginning of November, a large cluster of more than 60 people occurred in the nursing home for the elderly in Asaka City. Then, there was more than 30 people in the special elderly nursing home in Kawaguchi City. There have also been smaller clusters in other nursing homes around the prefecture.

45 new cases of Covid-19 announced in Saitama prefecture on November 8th.

69 new cases of Covid-19 and 1 death announced on November 7th in Saitama prefecture.

November 6th

114 new cases of Covid-19 announced in Saitama November 6th. This is the highest daily figure to date and only the second time ever that the figure is a three digit number. However, despite being the highest daily number of confirmed cases, the current number of active cases remains lower than in the peak during spring. As you can see in the chart below.

November 5th

32 cases and 1 death were announced in Saitama Prefecture on November 5th. It is the fourth day in a row that there has been a death from the virus in the Prefecture. Moreover it is the 111th death from Covid-19 since the pandemic began. Overall the Covid-19 figures in Japan are higher than they have been in weeks with more than a 1000 cases confirmed nationally on November 5th.

Of November 4th’s cases one, a woman in her nineties, is part of the SOMPO cluster, which now stands at 63 cases. 47 of those are patients and 16 staff. The Shiraoka nursery school also had other confirmed cases bringing the total number of infections to five at that hoikuen. In Saitama City a primary school student and his forty something year old mother tested positive on November 4th.

November 4th

42 new cases were confirmed in Saitama on November 4th. In addition, Kawagoe City announced that one woman in her 70s who had been infected with the new coronavirus had died. This is the third day in a row that a death has been announced and 110 of the confirmed infections in Saitama Prefecture have now died. Koshigaya City announced that it will reduce the cumulative number of infected patients by one, saying that one patient announced on the 31st of last month was negative in the subsequent PCR test.

November 2nd

26 new cases of Covid-19 was announced in Saitama on November 2nd. One death was also announced on the same day. The death of a woman in her seventies was announced by Saitama City. She died on November 1st.

    • Including a woman in her nineties in Fujimino City who is resident of an old folks home where another case has also been confirmed. Also, a man in his 40s in Tokorozawa was confirmed to have the virus. He is a trace contact of another previously confirmed case.

November 1st

33 cases of Covid-19 confirmed in Saitama Prefecture, November 1st. Also, the Saitama Labor Bureau announced an infection in a staff member working at the Centralized Treatment Center for Coronavirus Infectious Diseases in Chuo-ku, Saitama City. He tested positive after taking a PCR test as a close contact of an infected person outside the workplace.

    • Another resident woman in her 90s tested positive at the nursing home for the elderly “Leben Home Toda” in Toda city. Bringing the total number of infected people in this cluster to 13.

As of 9:00 pm on the 1st, 10 people were seriously ill, 252 people are hospitalized, 87 people are being treated at hotels and also 24 people are being treated at home. 5386 people have been discharged from the hospital and completed medical treatment to date.
