Not Dasaitama!… I recently had the great experience of filming on location and in studio with the NHK Cool Japan show. It will air this Sunday March 3rd at 6 pm on BS1 and in 150 countries around the world on NHK World Premium on Monday March 4th at 2pm JST. The show is a special on Saitama, showcasing some of Saitama’s cool attributes.

Not Dasaitama

Saitama has a bad reputation, although I can’t for the life of me understand why. There is so much to do in Saitama and we have some really unique places and attractions that you will not find in any other place in Japan. Just take a look at the “Only in Saitama” category on this blog for some ideas.

The Cool Japan episode is where I came up with the new subtitle of my blog at the end of last year; “Not Dasaitama, but Bonsaitama”. It came out of my mouth in response to a question from the Director and they decided to use it as the punch line of the show… or at least I think they did. We’ll have to wait until Sunday to find out! Dasai means lame and the pun Dasaitama was created to imply that Saitama is not cool. It so is though! Bon is the french for good and Saitama is famous for Bonsai. Bonsaitama is a much better nickname for Saitama than Dasaitama, don’t you think!?

Here is a 15 second preview, yours truly in the opening scene at the Bonsai Village and in studio saying “NO….” Click on the link in blue to see the 15 second preview;

    1. I hope it does or I will be perfectly mortified!! But I think it will, they made a point of having me say it right as we wrapped up the show. Thank you so much for commenting

  1. what an incredible experience you got to have- this is so neat ha. cant wait to see what you guys do next!

    1. Thanks a million Cait. It really was a great experience. It was eye opening too – filming on location was long and hard (in studio filming was much easier) – I have a much deeper respect for those in the industry after my limited experience. Thanks again, I really appreciate it <3

    1. Hopefully 🙂 No matter what happens – the kids are pretty psyched their Mom is going to be on TV, so that’s something 😀

  2. This is so cool! I personally think I’d freak out and freeze up if I was ever on TV, but it’s still super fun to think about!

    1. I thought I would too; it happened me on radio once and I just couldn’t speak, but thankfully and surprisingly I was pretty okay filming after we got started. Nerve wrecking though!! Thanks a million 🙂

  3. Awww, congrats!! I am not going to be home at that time (got play practice) and I don’t have BS1, maybe you could share the clip?

    1. I’m hoping so. I actually don’t have BS1 either!! But a friend of mine is going to record it onto DVD for me and maybe I will be able to upload it. If not the whole thing, a bit of it at least. Thanks a million <3

    1. Thank you so much. It was a really great experience making the “Bonsaitama” episode. 🙂 I am really glad you liked it.
