The Omiya Bonsai Art Museum in Saitama City is a very special museum, worth taking the time to visit if you are interested in bonsai. It is the only public art museum in Japan that specializes in bonsai. And this year for the first time, it is holding a special limited light up event for just 22 nights. The event is in celebration of Saitama Wheel 2023, a sporting project centered around the Tour de France Saitama Criterium. They have called the event “The Bonsai Microcosm Journey” in English. This illumination event allows you to experience bonsai in a new light. Moreover, you can control that light yourself, from your smart phone…
Omiya Bonsai Museum Light Up

The Bonsai Microcosm Journey (light up) is on for a total of 22 days on the Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays between October 27th and December 10th 2023. The theme of the display is “Space”. Saitama City in conjunction with Panasonic have created a cloud “Yoi-en” that allows visitors control the lighting effects from their smart phone. You can change both the background lighting and the projection mapping on the main displays in the garden. If nobody changes the lighting, the lighting will automatically change every ten minutes, working through 12 different settings. The settings include light bulb colors, depictions of the four seasons as well as space scenes, to name but a few. In addition, there are eight types of projection mapping settings with a planet theme.
