Santa Japan 2017 Guide for the Greater Tokyo Area St Clair Santa

Where can I visit Santa in Tokyo?

This list is specifically for places you can visit Santa in TOKYO in December 2017.  Please be aware that Santa meet and greets are not like what you might be used to in your home country. There is generally no grotto and he doesn’t give out a present. In Japan, “Finland” is used most frequently to describe a Santa from Lapland or the North Pole. Where it is not specified whether the Santa is one from Finland or North Pole there is a chance he will be a Japanese representative of Santa.

As of the 28th of November 2017 very few places have come back to me to confirm whether they have Santa this year or not. This is much slower than last year when I already had 33 places confirmed by the same date. So this year I have decided to make this a “live” feed as such. I am releasing this information now with the confirmed Santa listed first and below the heading “Confirmed in December” I will post additional Santa locations as they confirm.

Most of the locations that have Santa visiting do state that as Santa is a busy man there maybe changes to the event’s time and location, and even availability of Santa, so please do always ring ahead or check with the official site before heading out the door. 「中止」will indicate that an event has been cancelled, while 「変更」may indicate a change in time, date or even the conditions involved in meeting Santa.

If you want to hire a Santa to visit your home, you will find that information here. The Chiba list to date is linked below. And Santa Claus locations in Saitama are on the event calendar.

🎅Haneda Royal Park Hotel Tailwind

Santa in Saitama

Saitama Santa events are added to the Saitama Live Calendar you can view here.

  1. How interesting! Now I’m curious about the differences between the “Finland” Santa in Japan and the other type. What does a Japanese Santa look like?

    1. Author

I should have a photo somewhere, I’ll see if I can root it out! Usually a Japanese Santa is in one of those Internet bought Santa suits; cheap and fake looking, with an equally cheap looking beard… and no surprises they are Japanese rather than Scandinavian 🙂 Thank you so much for commenting. I took Santa for granted in Ireland, it was only when we first visited Santa in Japan that I realised the set-up is not the same in every country!

  2. This is an awesome post! I never really thought about the differences between countries when it came to Santa, as I’ve always thought of Santa visiting each country. So I guess in my mind, everyone thought of him in a similar way, but may call him different things. I’m not I said, I never really thought about it too much. And I love how you’ve compiled a list of where to meet Santa. I just missed being able to experience this, as I was just in Tokyo!

    1. Author

Thank you so much. Me too – I had just expected Santa would be the same here. Such a shock when I initially couldn’t find one, then found one that was Japanese … so over the years I searched and searched until I came up with this list. It became a bit of a life mission!!

I hope you enjoyed Tokyo. Who knows maybe in the future you can experience a Santa in Japan ☺🎅

  3. I can show this list to all my friends currently in Japan. Santa photos are great, no matter the place they’re taken, but Japanese Santa sounds a little cooler to talk about.

    1. Author

Please do share if you think they will be interested. I started compiling the list a few years ago because I found it so hard to find Santa and I wanted to share the ones that I did find. The project sort of took on a life of its own and before I knew it I had like 60 Santa locations all over the Kanto plain (Tokyo and surrounding prefectures). Its not like home, but its not too shabby either! I particularly love the Santa we now visit annually up North.

A very happy holiday season to you 🎅 Thank you so much for commenting.
