Takanodai Cherry Blossom Festival Sugito

This very short notice and a very quick post just to get the information out that the Takanodai Cherry Blossom Festival is on this Sunday, all things equal. However, the cherry blossoms have not yet started to bloom! They haven’t been having much luck with their festival lately. The festival was cancelled during the pandemic and then last year, regrettably, they had to cancel last minute due to bad weather. As far as I am aware, this is the first time in five years that the festival will be on (hopefully!)

The information has not been uploaded to any of the town’s websites, but I was able to find it in the town’s March issue of their monthly public relations magazine, pictured above.

I have not been to this festival personally. But by all accounts it is a very popular festival that draws crowds. Moreover, it is located conveniently close to Sugito-Takanodai Station, on the Tobu Nikko Line, in Sugito Nishi Neighborhood Park. There are approximately 250 Somei Yoshino cherry trees on the road leading from the station to the park, creating a tunnel of cherry blossom trees. In the park’s spacious lawn they have festival and market stalls. You can try freshly made “Takano Dango”, a specialty in the area. There are also other events such as unique stage events, lottery tickets, and stamp rallies.
