The Toda Furusato Festival has not been on for the last three years, due to the pandemic. However, they did have an online event last year instead (it was completely cancelled in 2020). But this year, 2022, it is scheduled to take place at-venue again, on Saturday August 20th and Sunday August 21st. In 2019, the festival returned to the city hall area for the first time in fourteen years. And this year it will once again be held in and around Toda City Hall.
Toda Furusato Festival
Furusato is the Japanese for hometown. It is a typical local summer festival with the usual offerings of food booths, festival stalls, live performances (including taiko drums) and traditional dance. However, in 2022, it maybe on a smaller scale than usual. Also, they say on the website that they will not release more detail until nearer the time. (Last check August 2nd 2022).
Children’s festival
Within the Toda Furusato festival there is a children’s festival “Todakko festa” on Saturday the 20th. The Todakko Festa has several special events for children. In a normal year, it includes a children’s mikoshi (portable shrine) parade. However, they probably won’t have that element in 2022 as it requires elementary and junior high school students carrying the portable shrine in close proximity. Also, normally there are several competitions for children and live music performances by children too.
In 2022, they are concentrating on craft events for children, as per the flyer above. They will also have some festival stalls with festival games, such as “goldfish scoop”.

Time: from noon to 8 pm on both days (same as a ‘normal’ pre-pandemic year)
Cost: free, but the craft workshops cost between 100 and 500 yen per person.

Access
The nearest station is Toda Koen station on the JR Saikyo Line. There is a free shuttle bus from the station to the city hall.
