Information for the 43rd annual Tokorozawa Citizens Festival, a large and popular festival, at Tokorozawa Aviation Memorial park, near Tokyo.
First up, an apology to my Facebook followers for posting that the Tokorozawa Citizens Festival was on last weekend! Thankfully, I had posted the poster for the festival so it was actually quite clear I had a brain fart in the middle of the night and that the festival is actually on this weekend: Saturday October 29th and Sunday October 30th!
Tokorozawa Citizens Festival
For the first time in three years, the 43rd Tokorozawa Citizens Festival is scheduled to take place the last weekend of October. The festival is on the Tokorozawa Aviation Memorial Park, where there is also a great aviation museum. It is a large and very popular festival with:
- A live stage,
- Dance performances,
- Traditional music, such as taiko
- Traditional performances such as shishimai
- Sporting demonstrations
- Try new sports
- Festival stalls,
- Flea market,
- Kitchen cars (food vans)
- Dozens of events for kids
- Mini Steam Locomotive
- Fire brigade corner
- Other!
There is so much to do at the festival that there is a website (linked at the bottom of the post) with pages and pages of information!
With kids
There are dozens of things for kids to enjoy such as the mini steam locomotive listed above. But there is also a cardboard maze which is always a hit with smaller kids. In addition, they will have a beigoma tutorial and beigoma competition. On top of that there is a magician, giant karuta, and kamishibai to name but a few. There will also be songs and dance for smaller children. From my understanding, there are also some sports they can try out on the day. And of course, you’ll find all sorts of culinary treats for kids (yourself!) in the booth area of the festival.

Access
By train: The Seibu Shinjuku line’s Kokukoen station 「航空公園駅」・「こうくうこうえん」is right beside the number 5 entrance / exit to the park on the west side. By car: The park is approximately 6 kilometers from the Tokorozawa Interchange of the Kanetsu expressway.
