Ageo outdoor ice rink

Ageo Park brings us a brand new outdoor seasonal ice rink in Saitama Prefecture this year. WHOOP! I was just lamenting with another Saitama fan the other day how we’ve lost so many outdoor seasonal ice rinks since the pandemic. And how one of the best known and loved ones (Numakage park’s) is closing permanently after this season. Which would have only left the natural ice rink in Tokigawa, had it not been for this new one. In addition, they are lighting up the park at night and have thus created a new illumination spot in the prefecture too. Moreover, later in winter (early February) they will have a two day FREE snow park…

New outdoor Ice Rink in Saitama Prefecture

The new outdoor ice rink is at the new Ageo park at the relatively new Aeon Mall Ageo! But it is only open for 13 days over the Christmas / New Year holidays (winter break from school). Furthermore, its not actually ice! They don’t say what it is, only that it is not ice. Some sort of artificial material that looks like ice presumably. I will be checking it out this year and, if I can, I will report back!

It costs 600 yen for one hour from December 27th to 29th and again from January 4th until the last day. Between the 30th and January 3rd it costs 600 yen for 30 minutes. However, the price includes the rental of skates, helmets, gloves and protectors. Moreover, children who are registered kids club members can get a 200 yen discount. But you need to have proof of their membership. There maybe days when they can’t open due to inclement weather conditions. You can check the official website, linked at the bottom of the post, for any last minute changes or cancellations.

Other events

During the period that the rink is on there are several other events scheduled at Aeon Mall Ageo. For example, on New Year’s Day you can dance with Sumikko characters at both 11 am and 2 pm. On Tuesday January 2nd there will be shishimai performances in the south court at three different times (11 am, 1 and 3 pm). There are also other events for Christmas, before the period of the rink. On December 23rd there is a mini Christmas concert at 1.30 pm and again at 2.30 pm. In addition, on the 24th there will be a large bingo competition, with some prizes, from 2 pm.

In February they will a snow park (see below illumination) in early February. They will also have an ‘athletic adventure’, weather permitting, from Saturday the 10th to Monday (public holiday) the 12th. Moreover, the park has illumination…

Ageo park winter illumination

This is also a new illumination display in Saitama Prefecture in the winter 2023 / 2024. For Ageo Park’s very first winter, a gigantic fir tree 10 meter high is decorated with golden lights.
There are also photo spots, such as a pergola decorated like a blue cave. The winter illumination at Ageo Park was turned on on November 12th 2023 and will be on nightly until Thursday February 29th 2024. It is turned on from 4 pm to 10 pm.

Snow Park

On February 3rd and 4th Ageo Park will have a free snow park! It is on three times each day at 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm. Each time it snows artificial snow for about ten minutes and then the kids can play in it. Official event page.
