Ornamental Fish Fair

I came across another interesting event on in Kazo City this weekend, on Sunday May 24th, while updating the May event round up post. The 41st annual Japan Ornamental Fish Fair at the Saitama Prefecture Aquaculture Fisheries Cooperative Fisheries Distribution Center in the Kobama area of Kazo City. I didn’t even know Saitama had an “aquaculture fisheries” distribution center until today! One of the reasons this event caught my attention, pun not intended, is because they have a goldfish scoop event on the day. Something that is always very popular with children.

Ornamental Fish Fair

The 41st annual Japan Ornamental Fish Fair is made up of the 41st All Japan Goldfish Competition and the 4th All Japan Medaka Competition. In addition on the day there is a market of sorts where you can buy ornamental fish and related equipment as well as other booths, including ones that sell edible fish from Saitama. There is, as aforementioned, also a goldfish scoop booth. The doors open to visitors at 9 am. The judging starts at 10 am. When the judges are in a booth, you will not be able to view the ornamental fish at that particular booth. According to Goguy, there are usually some really rare ornamental fish at this competition that you can’t readily see anywhere else. The award ceremony is from 3 pm and the venue closes at 4 pm.
