Iwatsuki is stepping into the world of yokai for the very first time. With a brand-new cultural event the “Bewitching Moon, Part 1: Pleasures of the Long Moon Night”. It takes place at the Iwatsuki Station East Exit Crescent Mall. It is on Friday, September 4th, 2026. The event blends traditional folklore with modern creativity, offering an immersive experience themed around “mystery,” “the unusual,” and the charm of yokai culture. The organizers describe it as a day meant to leave a lasting impression. A mix of heritage and imagination that has never been seen in Iwatsuki before.
Iwatsuki’s First Yokai Event
One of the biggest highlights is the appearance of Yokaiya (妖怪屋), performers who act as Practitioners of Supernatural Arts 妖業師. These specialists revive ancient yokai culture and connect “people and yokai” with the local community. Their specific forms and characters will remain a secret until the day, adding to the anticipation and thrill of the event. Visitors may also encounter the official yokai photographer KÜRÜ, who may capture your moment at the dedicated yokai, Yosha-dokoro 妖写処 photo spot if luck is on your side.
Families will find plenty to enjoy. The 妖遊処 children’s area offers classic festival games such as super ball scooping and yo‑yo fishing, letting kids enjoy the playful side of yokai culture while soaking in the event’s mysterious atmosphere. There’s also a body paint booth, perfect for early Halloween-style dressing up and adding to the immersive feel of the day. . At the official booth, visitors can also pick up a yokai coloring sheet; returning the completed artwork earns a limited sticker, available on a first‑come basis. Organizers encourage imaginative coloring, reminding participants that yokai have no fixed colors – part of the fun is inventing your own interpretation.
Severe weather may cause cancellation (荒天中止). They advise that you check the official Instagram account for the most up-to-date information.
