The Kawagoe Junior Chamber, supported by the Northern Kasumigaseki Neighborhood Association, will host a Global Festival in the Kakuei Shopping District (Kasumigaseki) this coming Saturday. It is one of several community events organized by the chamber in celebration of the centennial anniversary of the city of Kawagoe. In addition, that evening, for the first time in three years, the Kakuei Shopping District will have their annual Night Fair.
Kawagoe Global Festival
According to the Kawagoe Junior Chamber there are more than 8000 foreigners living in Kawagoe city. The aim of the festival is to bring people together “regardless of age, nationality or language barriers”. There will be food booths offering samples of cuisine from various countries. They will also have performances on the main stage from different countries such as world folk dance, K-pop and Peruvian dance. Kawagoe born and bred U-zhaan, a tabla musician will also play live. There are also some workshops on the day. In addition, there will also be Japanese culture and food on offer.
For the first time in three years, the Kakuei Shopping District will host their annual night fair. For the night fair this old style shopping street is lit up. However, the night fair is normally held in conjunction with Kasumikitasai, but Kasumikitasai has been cancelled. Normally, when Kasumikitasai is on there are all sorts of child friendly and traditional events, but it would seem most of them are not on this year. Instead this year they have the Kawagoe Global Festival. Official event flyer.
