The fourth annual Coedo Imo park is on Saturday February 14th and Sunday February 15th 2026. Imo is the Japanese for potato. The word “imo” incorporates many different types of potato, but is often used to simply refer to “satsumaimo”, what we call sweet potatoes in English. Kawagoe is famous for its sweet potatoes. This year there is a big change to this event: a new venue…
Coedo Imo Park in 2026

What started out as “Koedo” Imo Park, became “Coedo” Imo Park in 2025. But for the first three years of this festival, it was on in Renkeiji. And they would move the giant sweet potato, pictured at the top of this post, from across the road at Hotel Hatago Coedoya. This year for the first time it is on in Hatsukari Park, which is the park beside Honmaru Goten. The two nights of the Coedo Imo Park, as well as an additional three nights, there is night light up at Honmaru Goten. But I don’t expect that they will have the giant sweet potato this year! The contents of the event remain the same though. A selection of baked sweet potatoes / potatoes and sweet potato / potato flavored food will be available at the event.
There are approximately 50 varieties of sweet potatoes to be sampled at about 30 different street stalls. They also have some stage events on the day. Another big change this year though, is that you have to pay into the event. They are offering discounts on e-tickets bought in advance, they are on sale now. It costs 500 yen in cash on the day, or 450 yen for tickets bought online in advance. Only people over 16 years of age have to pay. There is also a completely free area, with a giant inflated slide for kids. There will be mascots visiting too. They have a sports event too.
