For the second year in a row the Kita Urawa Awa Odori event has been cancelled due to the ongoing pandemic.
Summer maybe officially over, but there are still a couple of lingering summer festivals on in Saitama this weekend. For one, the Kita Urawa Awa Odori competition as part of the Urawa festivals. The festival is held annually on the first Saturday of September.

The 41st annual occurrence of the event will be held on Saturday September 7th from 1.30 pm to 8.30 pm. They plan to go ahead if there is light rain, but there maybe changes to the schedule or even cancellation if there is heavy rain, a typhoon or other unforeseen circumstances.
Apart from dance performances parading the streets, there will be attractions for kids. For example, they can dress up in fire fighting outfits and / or meet mascots. There are musical performances scheduled too.
The awa odori starts from 5 pm and around the same time they have a children’s portable shrine “mikoshi” parade. There is no cover charge to view the various attractions of the festival.
Access Kita Urawa Awa Odori festival
The festival is held from the West exit of Kita Urawa station up to the Kita Urawa branch of Aeon. That street is pedestrianized for the festival. There is no official parking for the festival and it is advised that you come on foot, by bike or by train.
