The kawazuzakura at Yamazaki Park have become quite well known, but they are not the only beautiful early March cherry blossoms in Fujimi City. The Yamazaki Park kawazuzakura are reaching full bloom now, as they start in February. But the cherry blossoms in this post are a few days behind. They tend to start opening at the end of February and bloom in early March. So if you don’t / won’t get to see the Yamazaki Park kawazu in full bloom this year, you still have a chance to see early March cherry blossoms in full bloom in Fujimi City this year. I suspect the ones in this post will reach full bloom around mid-week. Possibly around the 4th of March 2026.
Early March cherry blossoms Fujimi City

I last visited on February 28th 2026 and on average they were at around 40%. A few were about 60% though. I would love to get back to see them this week, I can just imagine they are stunning in full bloom. Especially the line of them that sit with just paddies fields and the sky behind, as per the feature photo at the top of the post. Such a beautiful scene. The cherry blossoms are on three sides of a sports ground, Fujimi Second Sports Park (Fujimishi Dai Ni Undo Koen). On one side they stretch for 300 meters. I don’t know how many trees there are, but it feels like there are a lot more than at Yamazaki Park. There is also more parking than there is at Yamazaki Park.
However, the biggest problem here is that people park on the side of the road with the longest stretch of kawazu. They aren’t there for the trees, it seems to be a popular place for truck drivers to rest. So its hard to get a good wide shot of the most picturesque trees. But if you ever wanted to get a photo of your car with cherry blossoms, this would be a good spot! The other key spot at Fujimi Second Sports Park, as per photos below is fine on a weekday – you should be able to get good photos with an unobstructed view. But on a weekend there are often dozens of cars in the way of taking a wide view like the one on the left below, because the sports ground is used more on the weekend.

Sakura Spot Details
Sakura variety: early blooming cherry blossoms, “Kawazuzakura”
Bloom period: these particular Kawazuzakura typically bloom early March
Location: Fujimi City Second Sports Park (Fujimi-shi Dai ni Undo Koen) 富士見市第2運動公園, 6-1 Midorinominami, Fujimi, Saitama 354-0007. View on Google Maps.
Access: plenty of parking on a weekday. But please note it is a very rough surface, with potholes galore! The grounds are used for sports on the weekend, so the parking lot is much busier on a weekend. The nearest station is probably Tsuruse Station, which is on the Tobu Tojo line. It takes about 45 to 50 minutes to walk to the park from the station. Any bus going to Fujimi High School or Nanbata Castle Park are within walking distance. Fujimi High School is right beside the park and Nanbata Castle Park is about a 15-minute walk away. Currently, the Hina Dolls are on display at Nanbata Castle Park. However, they are replacing tatami mats on the 2nd and 3rd so some of the dolls will be out of view. Dates and opening hours of Nanbata Castle Park.
