Poppies May 2026 at Omiya Hana no Oka Park which straddles both Ageo and Saitama Cities. The park posted on April 27th 2026 to say that the poppies are blooming earlier than normal this year…
Poppies in Ageo / Saitama City

The always beautiful Omiya Hana no Oka in Nishi Ward grows poppies annually. I think last year, 2025, they grew more than in previous years, so it may be the same for 2026. There are several fields on either side of the picturesque bridges in the center of the park. There are also several other flowers in bloom in the park including roses, pansies, dianthus, and much to my surprise the nemophila is still blooming. Be sure to check out the main article about the park with lots of photos and information for other flowers and seasons in the park.
I have not yet been in 2026. The photos in this post are from May 12th, 2025, when the poppies were pretty much in full bloom.
Poppy festival Omiya Hana no Oka
Each year, on one day during the bloom period of the poppies, there is a poppy festival in the park. They rarely provide information for it online, I usually see a poster at the park with the information. Last year, it was also in the April’s public relations magazine for Nishi Ward but it isn’t featured this year. But they put it on X the week of the festival – it will be on Saturday May 16th. They usually have a free poppy picking event on the day. I found information in a previous year on Facebook, that the festival is on until 4 pm, but the reception for the free poppy picking will close at 3 pm. Moreover, the festival will most likely be canceled if there is rain on the day.
