This Autumn, for the fourth time, Kumagaya City in Saitama and Ota City and Oizumi Town in Gunma, will collaborate on a large-scale fireworks display over the Tonegawa River. Between them, the two cities and one town will launch approximately 5,500 fireworks, set to music, over the Tosui Bridge, which connects Northern Saitama and Southern Gunma prefectures. The first two years they launched about 10,000 fireworks and last year it was about 7500. While smaller than in previous years, 5,500 fireworks still makes for an impressive display.

As a sort of reward for persevering throughout the pandemic, the two cities and one town decided to host a fireworks display in 2023. The aim was to energize and inspire the residents either side of the Tone River following the pandemic. In addition, they hoped to contribute to the revitalization of the area. Due to the success of the inaugural display they have continued with their uplifting fireworks display.
In previous years there were three free viewing areas, but this year organisers are also offering paid reserved seating on the Gunma side. The Kumagaya viewing area remains free to access. The area is a section of the Tonegawa Embankment Cycling course. In Ota City, Gunma, the viewing area is at the Tosui Ground Golf course. In Oizumi Town, Gunma, it is at the Tonegawa Riverbed Tone Sports Ground.
If you are coming by car from the Saitama side, plan to arrive early, as traffic restrictions will be in place around the venue and roadside parking is strictly prohibited. Official temporary parking is available on both the Saitama and Gunma sides of the Tone River. See parking information below.

Access
The nearest train station is at least a fifty minute walk away – Nishi Koizumi Station in Oizumi in Gunma, on the Tobu Koizumi line. Please note, that the Tosui Bridge will be closed to pedestrians from 5.40 pm. On the Saitama side, there are no train stations within a reasonable walking distance and unfortunately buses are also limited in this area.
Parking for the Tosui Bridge fireworks
If you are coming by car from the Saitama side, it is advised that you arrive well early. The streets around the launch site will be closed. Parking on the street is forbidden. In 2026 the official parking is, once again, mainly on the Gunma Prefecture side. But there are five different parking lots on the Kumagaya side:
- Menuma Elementary School (120 spaces),
- Menuma Administrative Center (140 spaces),
- Menuma Tourist Association Parking lot (60 spaces),
- Menuma Central Community Center (240 spaces) and
- Menuma East Junior High School (360 spaces).
The Gunma Prefectural Cancer Center will once again have a shuttle bus and there will be 320 spaces available there. The shuttle bus will also go from Sawano Sports Square (350 parking spaces) and Sawano Administrative Building (30 parking spaces).
In addition, there is also parking for 1000 cars at the Panasonic number three parking lot in Oizumi. And another 450 at the number 5 parking lot (of Panasonic). There is also additional parking at Oizumi West Junior High School (350 spaces) and the former Oizumi Town Hall (110 spaces). Again, the bridge will close to pedestrians from 5.40 pm, so be careful not to get stuck on the wrong side of the river! However, I suspect you will be able to see the fireworks from far and wide!
