Information for the candle night and temple light up for Pink Ribbon Month at Saimyoji (Saimyouji temple) in Kawagoe annually in October. The temple is also known as Yokoyama Saimyouji, or Saimyoji or Saimyo / Saimyou Temple. Interestingly, Saimyouzi is the official English spelling of the temple. The temple is very well known for its ‘hanachozu’, which are water fonts with flowers floating on the top. But the temple also run several other events during the year including light up events and candle nights.
Saimyouji Pink Ribbon Month
October is Pink Ribbon Month at the temple. In 2020 they gave away free pink ribbon stickers in the temple’s characters motif. In 2021 they partnered with J Posh, a NPO, for the pink ribbon festival. For the occasion, the largest hanachozu has a pink ribbon in the floral display and there is also a pink ribbon wall flower display at the main gate. Also, another display has pink ribbons hanging above it. During the month they have a limited edition temple seal, that can only be purchased on select dates until stock run out. Furthermore, the temple is lit up pink every (dry) night;

This year, 2026, the temple will be lit up pink on fine weather nights from October 1st to October 31st 2025. In other words, they usually don’t light the temple up on nights that it is raining. The temple is lit up from 6 pm to 8 pm. (It was until 9 pm in previous years, but this year it will finish at 8 pm nightly).

Kawagoe Candle Night
Saimyouji host a candle night a couple times of the year, usually with the main one in December. Last year they had one during Pink Ribbon month, but currently it is not scheduled for October 2026.
Pink Ribbon Festival – not on in 2026?
Currently there is no information available for the pink ribbon festival, but it is usually held on the last weekend of October. They usually launch pink sky lanterns for the occasion. It doesn’t appear to be scheduled for 2026

Access
The temple is located on the east side of the Kawagoe Park. You can actually walk to the temple from the park via a side entrance by the east side of the lake in the park. Therefore, a bus to the park will also bring you to the temple! Buses bound for Kawagoe Suijo Koen – 川越水上公園 – go from Kawagoe Station. Nishi Kawagoe station, which is on the Kawagoe Line, is about an 11 minute walk from the temple. If you are coming to the temple by car, please note that you have to take a steep right turn then wind through narrow residential area roads.
